Had take out from Sweet Magnolia's yesterday. After several visits to SM's, I believe they have found their groove. All of the folks were very friendly and helpful to us while placing our order.

Yeah, surprisingly good. I have passed by this place many times and finally made it in. I had the blackened catfish etoufee. Very good! The atmosphere is good and the service was excellent. The order took a bit longer than expected, given the number of guests dining and I found the menu to be perhaps a little heavy on variations of chicken and waffles compared to other items, but overall I'd say it was pretty good and I'll definitely be back.

So this is a relatively new soul food place, I think two years or close to. When you first come in the restaurant you are greeted warmly and the staff seems to like being there, that's good. I can comment on the carry-out, which is my favorite. I like that I can come in and see the food, before I chose it. The food is always hot and if it's not they will ask you to wait a minute to replenish with hot off the grill food.! The fried fish is cooked just right, crispy, medium salt and soft inside with a beautiful light brown cornmeal coating. Yum! The variety of food ( Pork Chops, Fried/Baked/Barbecued chicken, Fish, Oxtails (Yes) , barbecue ribs and barbecue short ribs, turkey, and all the southern sides) plus beans and fries! Oh, the Mac and cheese is beautiful, a work of true art, cheesy and flavorful! I have many favorites and one is the dressing, it's just as good as my grandmothers and that is saying something! The manager Marcus is also very accommodating, and really seems to want to help create a great dining experience for you. I have found a new favorite and if you want good down home cooking and maybe better than your own cooking...run and don't walk. Tip, avoid the busiest times, if you are on a tight schedule, that's with anywhere. Call in and order for takeout, but they are not slow at all, just a tip. I personally like the early lunch pickup, I beat the crowd and can order in peace, without hungry people all around me asking with their eyes for me to hurry up! I also love the location, easy to get into and easy to get out. It's close to the highways and close to the surrounding suburbs.

I've heard a few positive things about this place so I decided to give it a shot. My favorite all time soul food combo is something fried (chop, wings, fish) macaroni and cheese and candid yams. That's the true test for me but I didn't try that. I got the chicken and waffles which was great unfortunately the service was rather lack luster and dry. I did like the food, so I would return and try some other things on the menu. They do have a large and diverse menu but the service could really use some help.
